ASRaymond’s SPD ™ Standard Dampers are engineered to deliver optimal performance in a variety of applications and environments. Compression Dampers provide controlled speed while the rod is compressed into the outer body. In contrast, Extension Dampers control speed when the rod is pulled out of the outer body, and Dual Direction control speed during compression and extension. Parts are either corrosion resistant Type 316 stainless steel or completely black in appearance, in which case corrosion protection is provided by a nitrided rod finish and epoxy coated steel body.
Dampers, unlike Gas Springs and Springs, do not provide any helping force but instead control the motion in an application by providing a resistance force that is inversely proportional to the input velocity. A simplistic view of a Damper is a Gas Strut without the compressed nitrogen that provides the actuation or force.
