Operating Deflection Range

Generally springs have an acceptable deflection range, meaning the spring will work properly if the deflections from the resting length or height are kept less than or equal to the operating range. When deflections exceed the maximum operating deflection the life of the spring will be reduced, sometimes drastically. It is possible to design a different spring with a greater operating deflection range by changing various parameters of the design.
